DIY Interior Decorating… True Story Before and After with art on canvas

Tuesday, July 13th, 2010

A customer of Canvas Press, John from Florida had a great idea for custom art in his home and sent us his story along with before and after photos of his canvas project.

It has been a pleasure working with you this first time, and I expect to continue.  The outcome is substantially better than I expected. A little background: Last year, we remodeled our family room, leaving a space above the fireplace for a painting up to 32 x 42 inches, with a plan to find the “right” painting either here in Florida or in Europe on one of our trips.

In June we stayed in Paris with family, visited Monet’s gardens in Giverny, France one rainy Sunday afternoon.  The home is famous for the gardens and water lily ponds, subjects of many of his paintings.  We took several point-and-shoot photos of the grandchildren and gardens, one of which I sent to you for printing on canvas.

The results are spectacular!

John took the original image with a Canon A530 Powershot and modified it with Photoshop to remove some people in the shot and add more details and plants in bloom. He then used a painting software to add brush strokes to the image, creating a true ‘Monet’ feel to his shot of Monet’s garden. We printed it as a canvas gallery wrap with mirror border so that we didn’t have to crop any of the artwork. John added acrylic gel and varnish to the finished canvas once it arrived to enhance the look of a painting and hung it in the spotlight!

Just like the saying goes, if you want something done right you’ve got to do it yourself! John’s search for the perfect painting led him to create his own. If you have a vision of art and just can’t seem to find it, try going out and taking some shots for yourself! It’s okay if you aren’t tech-savvy or don’t have the equipment to do all the enhancements John did on his own. You can let Canvas Press take care of it with our major retouching and OilWorks enhancements.

New review of canvas gallery wrap photo from Canvas Press!

Thursday, March 25th, 2010

Penelope’s Oasis is a popular blog focused on moms and babies where Penelope reviews all kinds of related products and offers giveaways to her readers. Check out some of her thoughts about the canvas she received from us

I had the opporunity to have an image enlarged to a 16×20 inch piece for review, and used this photo of my sweet goddaughter and received a vertical print, on 1.5″ gallery-wrapped canvas with Image Border. I was very happy when I received it. I’m not sure what exactly they do in those image labs, but the Canvas Press canvas print is incredibly sharp, and she looks absolutely beautiful (my camera and home lighting may not do it justice). Everyone who has seen it has gasped, and it’s a real treat for her.

Donation from Canvas Press brightens the look of Fort Hood’s Resiliency Campus

Wednesday, March 24th, 2010

The following was published in the Fort Hood Sentinel by Dave Larsen on March 18, 2010…

Sixty art canvases that went up on the walls of the Fort Hood Resiliency Campus Friday were donated by the Round Rock-based company Canvas Press.

Canvas Press chief executive officer Doak Walker said he made the donation after hearing about the campus and taking a tour of the facilities in late 2009.

“I think it is an honor to be a part of this campus, to stand proud with Fort Hood Soldiers,” Walker said.

The canvases were created from digital photographs depicting a wide variety of events and activities at the Resiliency Campus and elsewhere on Fort Hood.

“I like the aesthetics; it’s beautiful,” 1st Lt. David Ochs, assistant operations officer for the Resiliency Campus, said. “I also think it adds to the excitement of the campus. You see a lot of smiles in the pictures.”

Ochs helped select the photographs to be made into the canvassed art. He said he looked for images reflecting the services offered at the campus.

“Based on the services we provide, it’s almost like a warm blanket for the post,” Ochs said of the Resiliency Campus. “From fitness counseling to how to do your job better … even cooking classes, we offer so much in so many facets of life.”

The process of creating the canvases, called “Giclee” or art prints, helps create artwork from digital sources, like a digital photo, or can preserve old photographs and paintings.

Walker called the Canvas Press donation, estimated in value at $7,000, as simply one neighbor helping another.

“Having the largest U.S. base in our own backyard is a great honor,” Walker said. “The community of Round Rock is very proud to reach out and help.”

I couldn’t be more pleased with Canvas Press’s quality and service!

As a professional photographer, I do an extreme amount of research before committing to a product. Past reviews, incredibly helpful and pleasant customer service, and extraordinary offers and pricing convinced me at once that Canvas Press was the right choice for my photos.

My first order with Canvas Press included three custom sized black and white images. When I received them, I was incredibly happy to see that they were just as the way I had previewed them on the easy-to-use website. When I was contracted to do 33 photo canvases for a restaurant, I knew that Canvas Press could handle it and guarantee the quality I desired. ALL 33 canvases were perfect. Canvas Press’s safe shipping of all 33 canvases was and is unsurpassed.

There is no doubt that I will continue to use Canvas Press for all of my photo canvas needs. The quality of canvas and use of inks is superb. Each canvas that I have ordered is clear, sharp and rich in color. The stretching of the canvas itself on my gallery wrapped projects is just as superior.

I thank you for all your wonderful help and support. Your customer service reps are the best I’ve ever dealt with. The friendly staff is always so very helpful with any and all of my questions and/or concerns.

Thank you again for your wonderful business!

Wedding Table Centerpieces on Canvas

Wednesday, January 6th, 2010

This summer I ordered 10, 8×8 canvases of different locations all around the world. Each of the places was one of the destinations that my husband (at the time I ordered everything fiance) and I visited. Instead of numbering the tables at our wedding, we used the canvases set up on easels as table names. With the left-over canvases, James and I made a collage on our kitchen wall, and it is the first thing everyone notices when they walk in. We love it! Thanks for always making great products, and being part of our special day. -Natalie

This was a great idea Natalie! We love to see how our canvases end up being used. Thanks also to Whitney Lee Photography for the amazing shots and sharing the images with us.

Canvases Featured at Film Festival

Friday, November 6th, 2009

Canvas Press made several canvases for the Austin Polish Film Festival to be on display for the duration of the event. Some canvases showcased major donors, while the highlight was a replica of the event’s brightly colored poster, designed by world-famous Polish Poster Artist Leszek Zebrowski.

The opening reception was attended by special guests related to the first movie shown in the festival, U Pana Boga za Miedza (God’s Little Village). They included the writer/ director/ producer Jacek Bromski, actress Agnieszka Kotlarska and composer Ludek Drizhal. The guests signed the commemorative canvas which will be auctioned off later in the year to raise money for the Austin Polish Society. For more information please visit www.austinpolishsociety.org

Turning candid photos into Masterpieces

Tuesday, November 3rd, 2009

You don’t have to be a master of photography to capture those most perfect moments in time of your children, human OR fuzzy. I find that some of the best shots of our children are candid, when they are being completely natural. However, many times when those moments arrive, all we have is our cell phone camera. While, your babies may look adorable, the backdrop in which they stand, the lighting or graininess discourages you from turning it into memorabilia for your walls.

That has all changed now that we have our OilWorks program. For over 2 years, we’ve transformed hundreds of rough photos into stunning digital paintings that are used as the focal points in many homes. Each OilWorks piece, whether Master or True Artist, is painted by a live person who is a traditional artist as well, using a virtual paintbrush and pallet. As you see in the Photo below, this is exactly what Beejal did with her children. She now has her new 48”x 36” Master OilWorks painting hanging in her home to enjoy every time she walks by.

I think it’s time to pull out all those candid photos… don’t you?

LifeWorks Home Improvement Challenge

Tuesday, October 27th, 2009

Through the LifeWorks Home Improvement Challenge (HIC), corporate and community teams partner with a decorator to design the space of a LifeWorks client. LifeWorks clients live in Supportive Housing – a program offering subsidized housing to kids who need a “getting on your feet period.” LifeWorks clients are former foster care children, former homeless youth and teen parents who may have never before received the help they need for a fresh start.

November Design Group of Austin, Texas contacted us about working with them to create a special canvas artwork piece to be featured in the living room of the makeover apartment. The girl living there was not able to bring her cat there with her, so we made a beautiful sepia-toned 30×30 gallery wrap canvas of her cat so she would always be there with her.

For more information on LifeWorks and how you can get involved visit www.lifeworksweb.org
